the first days....

june 23rd today I checked in at the Yellowstone HR it was quite interesting. Had to start at one point and go through several different people then to the uniform center. So far everyone is REALLY nice after I got my uniforms we headed to Mammoth hot springs, we saw the museums and goofed off until it was time for lunch Kenny, Bret, Amy and I all ate there. The food was okay, but for free one cant complain. And they payed less than $5 each for their food which is better than the $12 per meal per person that we had been paying. Things are outrageously priced in Yellowstone I guess it pays my paycheck so I shouldn't complain. ;) after lunch I had an orientation to do. I sat there for an hour hearing the same things over and over again. Stay 100 yards from bears, 25 yards from buffalo and other wildlife, don't feed them...blah blah blah

i am learning to use a new piece of kitchen equipment its totally cool! its a oven and it has a built in thermometer that you insert into whatever you are cooking so y you can see the temperature on the outside of the oven, it will braise, it will bake, it will even blanch stuff... you can turn it into a steamer chef Robert said it will do anything you want it to. It will go as high of a temp as you want it to or as low. It will even clean itself. He said that he would let me take pics and video of it Chef Robert is pretty cool and the sous chefs are pretty cool too. My sous chef is chef mike. He was shot in desert storm. He has a good attitude in the kitchen. And he is really nice... that is going to take some getting used to. For sure. Chef Robert used to be an instructor so he knows exactly what I need, so he is willing to let me do just about anything. Last night just as I was finishing cleaning he handed me one of his picnic caterings and put me in charge of it... HOW COOL IS THAT! I just had to get some things together and put them in the defrost freezer... and yes they have defrost freezers, they have a produce walk in a regular freezer, a walk in for the EDR (employee Dining Room) a walk in for the cafeteria which is where i'm working for now and a thaw freezer, where the temp is a little lower than the freezer. They have a Pot room, and a dish room. And they have almost completely cut out running water over frozen food to thaw it by putting in the thaw freezer. This is a very eco friendly facility they have two different color garbage bags one for non compostable materials and the other for compostable materials. Totally cool. I miss my hubby so much he is my life my love. I write him daily. I am making good friends here and they are wanting me to go on hikes with them and try to have fun. I am learning lots like they net43,000 a day they have their own warehouse of food in the basement
